Working on
the new store

Beauty retailer Douglas opened its first Belgian store in Wijnegem, in one of the largest shopping malls in the country. To mark the occasion, Pitchkoff was asked to develop an eye-catching activation to entice shoppers to explore the new location.

Concept

With the wind at our backs

We devised an interactive cabinet that invited shoppers to take their chances and grab a coupon from the wind turbine. To encourage purchases, the coupons included various discounts - and for one lucky person, an extended beauty treatment. This led to, exactly what you’d hope for from a store opening, lines of people; ready to explore the new store at a nice discount and end up at the cash register.

Process and development

The ball keeps on rolling

After the success in Wijnegem, it was decided to upgrade the activation and use it at every store opening. We replaced the coupons with more sustainable coloured ping-pong balls. Each colour represents a particular discount, and one special ball with the Douglas logo represents the grand prize of €100 shopping credit.

The new cabinet consists of 3 parts. One section contains the grab-bag, with technical components such as the fan and LED lights. Two other sections are display areas for product presentations, which can be customized according to seasonal themes or holidays.

Logistically, we made sure that the unit can easily be assembled by one person. All parts are equipped with wheels and the dimensions are matched to pallet spaces in storage, which facilitates transport and assembly.

Additionally, we developed an extra element: the make-up station. Matching the style of the interactive cabinet, and just as easy to assemble, transport and store. This modular piece of furniture allows stylists to sympathetically introduce visitors to the company’s wide range of beauty products.

Display area

The cabinet contains a product plateau. A special silicone opening protects against sharp glass edges and closes once the hand is withdrawn.

Can be used together or separately

The three different parts are finished all around, making them also usable separately.

Even easier than IKEA

The assembly is extra simple thanks to an illustrated assembly manual.

Fun work for a great brand, because that's what it is. Either way, the “ball pit” or “wind turbine” ensure fun for all.
